Friday August 28 (pictures)

I let Elsie sleep as long as possible this morning.
She has been so tired and worn out!
She was happy and got all ready.
But could not go to the bathroom.
When she gets tired, her muscles get tight.
ALL muscles :(
So it gets pretty hard for her to relax and let go.
Well, it was time to leave for school and she hadn;t gone yet.
I wasn't gonna send her to school again without going potty.....
So I left her home with dad while I ran Port to school.
He did good, he hesitated a little, but then ran off the class.
Got home and it took about 45 minutes before she was able to go.
But she went!
Yay!
So then I took her to school, and she went into class and was excited and ready for the day.
So it was good.
Dad had an appointment with the back doc.
He has been 'feeling' it more and wanted to make sure things were okay.
He did not expect to hear what the doc had to say.
Things did not look good.
His back has slipped 10 degrees.
Not sure what degree it needs to be at, but he was at 38 when the brace came off.
Now he is at 48 degrees.
When Brent asked what we could do about it, doc said 'Surgery'.
Oh man!
He wants to fuse Brent's back.
I think he was in a bit of a shock.
He said, no way!
But then doc said there might not be a choice.
He is going to go back in on Tuesday and get and MRI.
And then we will watch it close to see if the slippage is just due to settling, or if it is constantly unstable.
So prayers, again, would be so appreciated.
We were quite bummed out for the rest of the day.
Not only does he NOT want to go through the whole thing again.......but he has absolutely no sick leave left!
So we will wait and see what the MRI says before we go in panic mode....
But our prayer is to obviously avoid surgery, and that his back with fuse on it's own.
The kids had a good day at school.
Elsie had some refusal after lunch when her teacher wanted to take the class out to play soccer.
But Ms Chris said that they would practice together so she would feel comfy doing it with the class. :)
Cassi had two friends come home with her after school.
Laynie and Madi.
These two girls just happen to be the little sisters of Madi's friends, that happen to be boys.
One of them she happens to like a lot, and he likes her :)
Anyway, these girls and Cassi are like three peas in a pod.!
They just met each other when school started and I can tell that they will be lasting friendships.
And I don't want to forget to write down how absolutely nice Madi was to Cassi and her friends :)
It was very refreshing! :)
Dad and I had a little night out to get some birthday presents for Madi Bell and we also went out to eat.
It was a good night.

Thursday August 27

I am glad to say that things went smooth this morning.

It is not the ideal situation that I want....but you gotta start with baby steps.

I sent Elsie with a buffalo coloring page to work on until Ms. Dynka came in to get her for friendship circle.

That is something I wish they wouldn't take her out for.

I get it, it is fun, gets them talking.....but she is missing out of classroom stuff to go do this.

No wonder she keeps falling more and more behind.

BUT.......

For now, we are going with it.

They do the friendship circle Mon, Tues, and Thurs.

So before Ms. Dynka came and got her, while the kids did their seat work (which Elsie can do, but refuses to do without someone by her side....This is something we need to work on......)

Elsie colors her page....hopefully I can get some other kind of work for her to do and not just color.

BUT......

I had to make it fun so that she would stay in class, without and aide, and let me leave.

So it worked.

For now, I will take it.

We need to get her willing to go to class without someone there to help her right away.

Then we can start changing what she is doing during that time.

And who knows if this will work.

But we gotta start somewhere.

I just want the best for Elsie bug!

She is smart, she is capable.

She needs the chance to succeed and not just be pushed to the side!

She is stubborn as all get-out though!

Anyway.....

She woke up this morning with her thigh swollen like crazy from the sting she got the other night.

I didn't want to give her benedryl and send her to school even more tired then she already was......

So we put some topical stuff on.

After school it was still really bad.

Raised up to the size of about 4 inches by 6 inches and super itchy.

So i gave her some benedryl.

It did take the swelling down quite a bit!

BUT........

It made for an already tired girl, meltdown tired!

She just cried and cried......

And cried.

But at least she had this super cute gymnastics outfit her friend gave her to wear :)

She eventually calmed down.

Vern came over to get us and we walked to Bubble's and Eldon's house.

Eldon came home last night, and leaves again tomorrow.

So Bubble made him some cream pies and invited us all down to share.

So yummy!

We tried to get home before it got too late and kids got too tired.

We might have waited too long because all Madi and Cassi would do was FIGHT!!!!!

But it was fun to sit and visit and eat some yummy pie :)

I hope tomorrow is a good one for everyone.

Yay!I really think they should have started school mid-week.

When I picked the kids up after school today, there were 5 kids crying at school!

Everyone is SO EXHAUSTED!!!!!!!

We are ready for the weekend!

Wednesday August 26

I don't know what to do about Elsie.

My plan to go help in class......disaster :(

So the kids got ready for school.

Dad went to work, he has swapped days so he could be home for Madi's birthday on Saturday......

Once the big girls were off, Port was all ready and wanted to go play with the boys.

So I sent him over and he walked with them to school.

I finished getting Elsie ready and we were off.

Things seemed just fine.

Got to the school, and I spotted Port on the playground, looking all over....apparently for me.

As soon as he spotted me, he came running to me crying saying he didn't want to go to school.

Oh great!

I tried to talk him into it......tried to reason.

Nothing.

So we walked to take Elsie to class.

Elsie got her stuff put away and got in her seat.....I sat to the side still trying to talk Port into going to class.

Finally I told him I would come and have lunch with him if he would go to class.

He agreed.

So i started to take him, then Elsie started fussing, didn't want me to leave her.

So I take her, and Port, and we all go and take Port to class.

He was a good boy and went to class.

Then back to Elsie's class.

They start the day off with seat work.

Working on their own, doing little problems.

Stuff Elsie is able to do.....but to work on her own and get it done herself.....something she is unwilling to do.

So I help her....try to help.

She is fighting me all along the way.

So then I start helping Mr. Barerra with stuff for the class.

She sits there with her head on the desk, unwilling to do anything.

When they gather in front of the class to go over the paper, she won't leave my side.

Finally Ms. Dynka comes in, but she still refuses to do anything.

Ms. Dynka said that maybe it would be best if I just go.

So I do, with Elsie crying.

I won't lie.

I was crying pretty hard by the time I got in the car.

What are we gonna do?

I know Elsie......and I have no idea how to make this work!

I want so many things for her......I want her to have the best chance....

But if she is stubborn and unwilling.....what do I do?

Anyway.....

I made a trip to the ReStore place.

Madi wants a desk for her birthday and I found a cool one there.

So I got it loaded in the suburban and headed back home in enough time to go have lunch with Porter.

He was waiting for me....so I went with him to get his lunch and then sat and talked with him while he ate.

I saw Ms. Dynka.

She said that after about 15 minutes of crying and stubbornness, she did her work and things were good.

Then Elsie came out to lunch and she smiled and waved and all was good.

Then I took Port out to recess.

He made sure I stayed right by him while he played.

When the bell rung, I knew he wanted to cry and not go, but he was a brave boy, and he went to class.

By that time Elsie was out to recess.

I walked around with her a little before I told her it was time that I needed to go.

We found some of her friends, but she said she didn't want to play.

Then cute Hannah  Bingham came and started playing with her and all was good.

So I was free to go :)

I got home and started to kind of clean up.

I may or may not have bribed Port with some cookies after school as well........

So I started making those, then before I knew it, Madi was home.

Then time to pick up the little ones......

And then I was on XC carpool today.

But i forgot I had put the desk in the suburban.......no room for kids.

I only had one option.

Madi had to help me.

So there goes the birthday surprise out the window!

Dang!

Oh well....at least I know she likes it :)

So off I went to pick up XC

Then I dropped Cassi off at Activity days, Elsie didn't want to go.

Surprised???

I picked her up at 6, as well as the Morgan girls.

Took them home and had enough time to cook mac and cheese before Madi and I had to leave for YW.

It was a fun night.

Sis. Peterson makes the best bread and the girls have been wanting to learn.

So tonight, we made bread!

It all turned out perfectly :)

It was a fun night.

Then home, and another late night getting the kiddos to bed.

I am so tired......these kids have got to be exhausted!

I wish we had started mid-week so we could ease ourselves into a full week sched.

These last few days have been brutal!

So.......I don't know what to expect tomorrow.

All I know is I need sleep!

(Kind of sad that I don't have a picture of Cassi......even more sad, I only got to see her for a little over an hour today!)

Tuesday August 25

I've decided that 3rd grade must be the year that kids get mean :(

Okay, maybe not mean.

But when I walked with the kids around before school today, Elsie said HI to so many friends.

Lots of them smiled and said Hi back......but some of them......some of them ignored her.

And I am no dummy, they deliberately did :(

Broke my heart.

Although she kept smiling, I could tell that she could tell something was different.

I love my Elsie bug and I want to protect her from the world.

I don't want anyone to ever be mean to her!

Anyway......

Port went to recess and when the bell rang, he ran to class and saw us, and for a split second panicked.....and wanted to go home with me.

But he got through it quick and was off to class.

I walked Elsie to her class.

Apparently they do not have aides in the morning.

When Elsie needs someone the most.....

DARN-IT!!!!!

She wouldn't let me leave.

I stuck around for a little bit.

Talked with Mr. Barerra.

He had questions about the morning seat work that they do.

It is something she is ABLE to do.....but again, unwilling to do it herself with our an aide.

So I talked with him about maybe me coming in the mornings and helping with stuff in the classroom until the aide comes after 1st recess.

We will give that a try to get her used to the school routine and then hopefully wean off that a bit.

I want her to do things on her own....I would love for her to go without aides......maybe this is a good thing.

Not good for me to be there....cause then she relies on me....but we have to start somewhere.

Once I got home, I ran and did a few errands and dad did some bills and stuff.

I got a lot of dishes done today...they have kind of been piling up since we started the floors....

We have been using mostly disposable things, but some stuff just went in the sink.

And not wanting to get water stains on the floor, they stayed there for a while :(

So that got all cleaned up.

Yay!

Then I went for a run while Dad got started on the floor boards.

We have a little bit left without having to go buy more, so we thought e would see how far it took us.

He got the entry done and it looks SO GOOD!!!!!

I am so happy about it all!

The rest of the day played out as usual.....everyone got home.....

Had dinner.....cleaned up.

Then we made sure homework got done and then headed to Bubbles house.She had mentioned something about getting her weeds sprayed, but Eldon has been gone working a lot (he goes out of town for 8-14 days at a time).

So we went down to take care of that and weed her garden a bit.

We didn't expect her to be there, she was going to dinner with a friend.

But she had just gotten home.

The Edwards saw us walking over and came over too.

It was a fun night chatting and weeding and then Bubble gave us some ice cream.

We got home and to bed too late.....but that's okay.

It was worth it :)

Except Elsie bug got stung by a wasp!

Dang!

But we love our Mary Lane family!

Monday August 24

Well, we made it through the day.

First day of school!

It is a big year around here.

Madi going to High School.

Cassi going to middle school.

Elsie in third grade.

And my baby boy is in First grade, all day long!

The big girls were up at 6.

Everyone was happy and excited for the day.

Port woke up not much after them.

And we woke up Elsie just before Madi left so we could have prayer and scriptures.

Sydney picked Madi up.......Madi is very happy about not riding the bus :)

Dad got home in enough time to take Cassi to school, which she was very happy about.

They got to the school, and she couldn't find her schedule anywhere.

Something that would have stressed Madi out big time in 6th grade.

But Cass was chill, like usual.

He went with her to get a new schedule and then she was off.

The little ones could not wait to get to school.

They were all ready by 8, but had to wait an hour before school started!

We kept trying to get Elsie to go potty, but I think all the excitement......well, she couldn't go.

We tried and tried.

I stressed and stressed :(

After all the things I worried about, I didn't think about the potty thing being an issue!

So we took them to school.

We saw Ms. Dynka right away.

She offered to take Elsie to the nurses bathroom before class started.

Elsie was excited about it, so off she went.

Port was such a big boy and so excited to see his friends.

He went right to class, no prob.

Such a cute big 1st grader!

I went back to check and see if Elsie went.....she didn't.

They said they would try later.

She wouldn't have Ms. Dynka until after first recess.

In the meantime she had Mrs. Hollingworth, the computer teacher as her aide.

Now we love her....but she is not an aide :(

I could tell Elsie felt a bit uneasy, but she went.

I decided to roll with it.

Okay, maybe not...I wanted to cry.

But with Brent there, he helped calm me and off we went home.

He went to a dentist appointment while I went running. 

After my run, I called the school to see if she went.

She hadn't.

When Dad got home, we watched a movie.

Yes.

We watched a movie :)

We watched 'The Theory of Everything'.

We have really been going non-stop with the floors that we thought we deserved a free day!

So we did.

It was nice :)

Then we got up.....

We moved the fridge in.

It has been out on the deck while doing the floors.

It is nice to get the kitchen back together!

I started making some zucchini bread for the kids after school snack.

But realized I didn't have zucchini!

But Vern came to the rescue :)

(She also rescued me with some brown sugar!)

Madi came home just before 3.

We all sat and talked with her.

It was really nice.

I think we will look forward to that time with just Madi before the other kids get home.

Then I decided to shower.

Well, I got a message from the school then, from the nurse.

Elsie hadn't gone all day and was complaining about it hurting.

She was worried about a UTI.

I said she is hurting because she hasn't gone all day!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, even though school was almost over, I went and got her so she wouldn't be miserable.

I grabbed her and took her home to the potty, then went back and got Porter.

He had a great day and was so excited about all he had done.

He said it was longer than he thought, but it was still okay :)

I got home, and Elsie had gone to the bathroom, and all was good.

I sure hope it goes better tomorrow.

We did some more things around the house, and Cassi came home from XC about 5:30.

That is when we had dinner, then cleanup, homework stuff, some Ninja Warrior, FHE, then bed :)

So it was a good day, for the most part.

I want to know what to do to make things better for Elsie.

I wasn't very happy that she wasn't in the classroom when I picked her up.

She was in the recourse room.

I need to figure out y game plan.

I know they want what is best for her.......I think they do anyway.

Sometimes I can't tell if it is because it is easier to take her out of the classroom, or because she needs to.

But every time she is out of the classroom, she is missing out on instructions, which make her fall more behind, which makes them take her out more........and on and on.....

I want to stop this cycle that seems to get worse with each year!

I know Elsie is smart.

She has physical disabilities, not mental.

She does have some emotional challenges to figure out, but I want her to have the best chance in life that she can to be whatever she wants to be......and not just settle because she was too hard to work with.

The best thing I can think of right now if just being in there as much as possible.

That or homeschooling.....which I don't think is the answer either :(

Ready or not.......here they come!

School starts tomorrow!

I am excited and terrified :(

I've had a few sleepless nights as well as some 'eye-twitching' days.

One in High School, one in Middle School, one in Third grade (a pivotal year) and one going ALL DAY for the first time in first grade!

This is a big year for us :(

Why did I plan it this way????????

No, it is going to be great.

Everyone is excited.

Like really excited!

Porter is excited about having more recesses, and getting to eat lunches at school, but I am not sure he understands how long he will be gone :(

Elsie is so excited, and I already voiced my concerns here, but I will do everything I can to make this year a great one for her.

This little girl can do so much, she just needs people to believe in her!

Cassi will love Middle School, I know she will.

She will do well, make good friends, and enjoy XC.

And Madi, High School!

HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!

Not just any High School, but as of last week, they have the largest number of students in all the high schools in IDAHO!

Yikes, that would terrify my!

But she is so ready.

She will do awesome :)

Today we went to church.

Well, Elsie and I sat in the hall a lot and then she sat with me in YW :(

I hope tomorrow goes better.

She does have her aide to help her.

Maybe that's what we need at church....someone just for her :)

Anyway.

Madi gave a great lesson in Beehives....her last week as a Beehive.

She talked about how we can strengthen our family.

She did a great job :)

After church, we had dinner, got clothes ready for tomorrow, made lunches for tomorrow.

And got to bed at a pretty good time.

Oh I hope everyone sleeps good!!!!!

Saturday August 22

Big things happened for Dad today!

He got offered the truck, and took it!

The best part is, it is truck 7.

That is the station that he has been at for years and years so he is with the same guys still.

And he is so happy and excited about it :)

I am so happy too.

He looks pretty good as a truckie!

I took Port and Cassi with me this morning for Port to do the last of the Avengers series projects at Lowes.

Yay, we got them all done!

Then I dropped them off at home for them to clean their rooms.

We have some overdue books, like a week and a half late :(

So I ran those back and went to the bank as well to get some cash to pay the girlies for the work they were gonna do today :)

I came home and we had Cannon over and the Edwards boys.

Stacia has been prepping her yard for a wedding reception, and today was the day.

So I think it helped to have Cannon out of the way for a bit :)

I got some lists made for grocery shopping.....

But I didn't end up going until about 5 once all the boys left.

Madi mowed and Cassi picked weeds.

They also tried to clean up as much as they could around the deck.

It is still hard when there isn't the right place to put things yet :(

But they were good helpers.

So I did my grocery shopping so they would have actual food for school lunches :)

The kiddos all helped me unload and put everything away.....again in places that they don't really belong yet!

But we will get there.

While I made them dinner (mac and cheese, whoopee!), they had a ton of fun sliding around the new floors with their socks on.

They thought it was just the greatest!

A few close calls, but no one got hurt, so that's good!

I told them if they bleed on my floors, they would be in trouble ;)

Friday August 21

Tonight, dad gave the kiddos their Father's blessing before they head to school.

Dad works the next two days :(

They were beautiful blessings.

I love to hear each individual one.

Porter went first.

Dad talked about him being a protector.

A protector for Elsie, but for others as well.

Being a kind person and helpful.

He will have a great year!

I just know it.

He is excited about there being more recesses to go to and that he gets to eat lunch there.....not sure if he realizes he will be gone all day :(

But he will do just great!

In Elsie's blessing, he spoke about her being a light.

Being an inspiration to others.

Some things are hard for her, but she can do so much!

She will work hard and make this a great year :)

People will watch her and see what she is able to do and be in awe!

I know it!

Dad gave Cassi her blessing and talked about her sweet and bubbly personality, and how she is a leader.

People flock to her and she has a chance to lead others and be a good example.

Going into middle school is a scary thing!

You know if Lake Hazel was a High school, instead of a middle school, it would be a 5A High school!

That is huge for a middle school!

Massive!

Cassi does have so much to give, and I can't wait to see what she does in life!

Madi, oh Madi.......going into High School!

Oh man!

In her blessing, dad talked about the importance of knowledge.

And how High School is a great stepping stone in life, but that's all.

And she should not to get too caught up in what High School tries to be.

It is such a small little blurp in life......

She needs to focus on learning and enjoying life while she is there.

Madi is a good kid and she has always had a knack for learning......

I love to see her grow and become more.

So proud of her and excited to see what is in store for her.

I took Cassi to the school for her 6th grade orientation.

I left her there and they had a big assembly and split up in groups to play some games and stuff.

She is excited :)

I came home and got started on the floors.

I got the last of the coats on!

Yay!

So we will just let it sit and harden until Monday or so :)

Very excited for this part to be done!!!!

Very very happy!

While I was doing the floors, dad took Madi to her Freshman orientation at the High School.

He stayed for the assembly, but then let Madi go with her friends to check the school out and find her locker and stuff.

When the girls got home they went to the Morgans to swim for a bit.

Then at 2, we met at the Edwards for Grahams birthday party and cake :)

Fun times.

Then it was time to get ready for the Mary Mac meet and greet.

I wanted to get there to talk to the principle about Elsie's teacher.

We pulled in the recourse room teacher as well.

We tried to see what could be done.

But there is only one aide assigned for the 3rd grade and there are three kids who need the aide.

So they put them all in the same class.

After talking for quite a while, and me shedding a few mama bear tears, I left with a plan that Maybe they could switch, but we wouldn't find out until after the first few days of school.

That is not what I wanted to do :(

Well, we took Port to meet his teacher, and get his stuff in his desk.

She seems really nice.

She is new this year, but a seasoned teacher.

She seems very nice and very organized.I am excited for him and this school year.

As I was leaving, I started thinking......

I talked to Elsie about the teacher she was assigned to.

I told her who was in the class with her.

And she said she wanted to go.

In order to move classes, we would be making the other two kids change classes as well.

And one of those kids had requested this specific teacher.

So I tried to put away all the things I thought would be bad.....and really thought about our options.

I called Dad, told him the situation.

We decided to give it a go.

I went and asked the recourse teacher what she personally thought would be best for Elsie.

She really thought this teacher would be good.

So I made all that fuss for nothing.

I am probably super annoying to the principle :(

I just want the best for Elsie.

I want someone to be on her team, to want her to succeed as much as her family wants her to.

She can do so much, she just needs her teacher to believe in her.

And who am I to judge whether or not this teacher isn't the one to do that???

So, with that, we went and saw her teacher and classroom.

She was so happy to be there, and her teacher was super excited about her.

I really hope it is a good year for her.

I will do everything I can to make sure it is!

Thursday August 20

I took the kids to see Lindsay to get their school haircuts.

I got one too :)

I love Cassi's cut!

Madi got a nice trim that made her hair look a ton thicker, but still not lose much length, so she is happy.

And cute Elsie got a little bob!

I only got a after picture of Cassi......hopefully I can take some more tomorrow.

We got home and Madi had her friend Maegan come over to plan their lesson for Sunday.

And Cassi played with Avery for a little bit before she had to head to XC.

Port played with friends all day.

Dad had fun with bills while we were gone :(

And he also got to try and figure out why our generators were giving us problems....

He did take Cass to XC because I started putting coat one onto the floor of the seal coat stuff.

I LOVE IT!!!!!!

I am so excited for these floors to be DONE!!!!

We were gonna put another coat on tonight, but sleep sounds way better right now!

We will do two more coats tomorrow and should be done!

I really am so happy!

It took 2 1/2 hours to apply the first coat, am hoping the next two coats go quicker....

I got a semi-glass sheen, so it is not super shiny, but has enough to give the wood some depth.

So pretty :)

You can still tell we did it ourselves......but I love it!

I can't wait to get furniture on it and live on it!

After I got the coat put on, I took a trip out to Star to take pictures of the Young clan.

It was a pretty night with great lighting and easy subjects :)

On the way home I bought a few odds and ends groceries, and underwear and socks for the little ones.

My poor family.

We have literally eaten fast food for the last like 5 days :(

I can't wait to get back on track!!!!!

And we are so close!!!!!!!

I am seriously so excited to be at this point.

It feels like this house just MIGHT get finished :)

Class lists came out.

I think Port has a new teacher.

And he is with Max, so that is fun.

Elsie, well, she has the only teacher I DIDNT want her to have!

I emailed the principle.....hopefully we can get it changed :(

She has who Cassi had in 3rd grade.

He is fine, but not organized, and will NOT work for Elsie!!!!

I don't think Cassi learned much that year from him....and I need Elsie to have a good year!

Wednesday August 19

Dad got up at 5:30 this morning to head to a breakfast with the football coach thing.

One of his friends at the fire station had tickets for the guys.

It was breakfast with the BSU coach, Coach Harsin and also with coach Joe Gibbs.

Coach Gibbs is a 3x super bowl coach as well as a nascar coach now.....

Highly successful man and Brent really enjoyed listening to him speech, even if it was early :)

I woke up with him and couldn't get back to sleep.

Cassi got picked up for XC and I got breakfast for the kids, by then Dad was back home.

We got some stuff done and then we made a run to Lowe's to get some stuff for the floors.

I still love them.

They do look like an old barn floor, but that is what i love......

It's my 'thang' ;)

I have some spots that I need to spot sand.

I did some of that, but then I wasn't feeling very good.

Brent wasn't feeling great either...

Maybe just tired, worn out...exhaustion....

After we rested for a little bit we pulled the trailer up front and got it all cleaned up to take it to Pat and Steve's.

Every year they have a family reunion and they use the trailers to house family.

We took it out to them and hung out for a little bit.

Dad, Cass and Port really enjoyed doing some fishing.

Cassi loves to fish!

She caught about 3, I think.

Madi and I sat and talked with Alex and Pat for a bit.

And Elsie had fun playing with Sydney with the fish pond and in the sand and just running around.

We had to leave so we could get Madi and I home in time for YW.

We stopped at the temple for a quick picture.

It is fun to see it going up.

So beautiful and I can't wait for it to be done!

Madi and I made it home in time to jump back in the car and head to the church.

We did a combined activity service project.

It was a scavenger hunt for needed items for the food bank.

It was a fun night.....and even better that Madi and my team won first place with collecting the most items on the list!
