Thursday March 19

I did Art Smart in Elsie's class today.
I actually put together my very first PowerPoint this morning.....BUT, I must have saved it wrong, because it wouldn't open in class :(
Oh well.
I did have pictures saved to it, so that is what we used.
For Art smart we have regular lessons to give the kiddos, but then for Art Gallery night, we do one big project.
This year's theme was 21st century artists.
I found a great artist.
Her name was Judith Scott.
Long story short, she was born a twin.
And happened to have Down Syndrome.
As an infant she had scarlet fever, and became deaf, and could never speak.
When she was 7, she was institutionalized.....deemed unteachable.
Well, for 35 years her twin sister, Joyce, felt like a part of her was missing.
She finally tracked down her sister after her Dads death.
She pulled her out of the institution and moved her to California with her.
There she was enrolled in special art classes for people with disabilities.
At first she had no interest until she met a fiber artist.
Then she began to collect items and wrong them in yarn, string, and fabric.
At first she was admired as an 'outsider' artist.
But as time went by, she became famous for how she was able to communicate her world through her sculptures.
There are not 'disabilities'....we just have different abilities!
So I gathered different objects and divided the kiddos into their table groups, and they started wrapping the objects.
It turned out so much better than I had expected.
It was a lot of fun and I am excited to display the pieces for Art Gallery Night!
You'll have to wait and see the picts from art gallery night.
But they were pretty awesome :)
*****
The rest of the day was spent prepping the floors for the carpet.
I got the upstairs and swept and windows vacuumed out and edges vacuumed out.
Dad worked on getting the cinder brick covered up in the master bedroom and closet.
It is gonna be fun to have actual carpet in there!!!!!
*****
And Madi.
Well, she went to school today.
All of school.
Still lots of coughing, but no fever.
Well, about 6:00 she started getting hives and was pretty much covered int hem in a couple hours.
We ran to the store to get her Benedryl.
Hopefully she will sleep good tonight.
Dang girl :(
