Thursday August 15

So I am not at all ready to go to Evanston tomorrow.....
And all I want to do is go to bed.
It has been another busy day.
I didn't run today.
The smoke in the air was so bad...I couldn't breathe.
But Cassi and I did take the 4-wheeler to go and feed the Morgan's dogs and chickens.
When we let them out of the garage, we found a bird stuck in between the shutter and the window in the garage.
We opened the shutters and he still kept trying to fly out the window even though we had the garage doors open and everything.
Well, I went around the house and knocked on the outside of the window to get him to go the other way.
He did, but he went straight into the cabinets.
So when I got back in the garage, he was laying on the ground, looking pretty exhausted and pretty bad.
I grabbed the snow shovel and Cassi grabbed a broom and she pushed him onto the shovel (Cassi's idea :) and we took him out on the grass.
He looked pretty bad.
Bu by the time we had the chores done and leaving, he was looking pretty good and when I went to put the dogs away tonight, the bird wasn't there...so maybe we saved him :)
*****
So I took Elsie to PT this morning and then it was her turn to do school shopping.
It was fun and she felt pretty special.
And pretty exhausted too :)
Then we cleaned the house and packed the kids clothes for tomorrow and did laundry the rest of the day, until Porter woke up.
Then we went to the library to get some books on disc.
And we went and got a few more things we needed for the trip.
By the time we got home, we decided to just have cereal for dinner.
They were all happy with it...and I was more than happy not to cook anything.
I am ready for school.
Ready for a bit of a slow down.
And they are all excited to start school too.
*****
Got the little ones to bed and the big girls helped clean up a bit more.
Then I headed out to put the Morgan's dogs back in their kennels in the garage.
I took the 4-wheeler down to bubbles bridge, and she had her truck blocking the lane.
I saw her and our other neighbor, Bruce and I asked what was going on.
She said she needed help, cause she had a cow out.
Bruce said I should go around the back of Doug's house (across from Bubbles) and push the cow out that way.
So I did...he walked up and bubbles was on one side and Bruce on the other....
He was a stubborn cow, he kept side stepping and making quick turns.
We got him to head down by his gate, but then he did a quick turn into Bubbles back lawn.
So I took the 4-wheeler around back of him to try and push him out that way, and he started to go that way and then he made a quick turn and went into her pumpkin patch.
I took the 4-wheeler around the front of her house to push him back down the pumpkin patch and towards his gate.
All the while Bruce and Bubbles are running around trying to chase him and stop him from going the wrong directions. By this time, Doug's son, Seth came to help.
He saw me blow through their backyard and wondered what the heck was going on.
So I went to go back around after I pushed him out of the pumpkin patch and saw Bubbles chasing after him in our field.
He had gone through the gate opening we have down by the canal.
So I speed back up and around our place and catch him and Bubbles down in front of the shop.
We pushed him out of there and back in the direction of Bubbles house.
But he shot by towards the top of the field.
Now I am on the 4-wheeler still, and we just watered the field, so it is a muddy mess.
I got to the top and got stuck right in front of Mr. cow.
Well Seth opened the big gate at the top of our field, then helped me lift the 4-wheeler out of the rut and we pushed the cow out the gate.
Then with the 4 of us we slowly pushed him towards the gate and got him in.
Whew....
It was pretty crazy.
And perfect timing for me to get there when I did.
Bubbles said she didn't know if she would rather shoot the cow or shoot Eldon for getting the cow.
Eldon is gone away for work right now....and that cow has given Bubbles some trouble before.
I am glad I was there to help her.
It felt very rodeo-ish.
It was pretty fun.
But I don't really want to have to do it again :)
Now off to bed I go....maybe....

Port has himself a cup of hot chocolate every night before he goes to bed and every morning when he wakes up.
He is pretty darn cute.
Just wanted to preserve the memory :)
