Family history Question #1

My sister started posting the questions from family search.
I thought it would be fun to save the answers here for my kids to be able to always have.

What is your full name? Explain why your parents gave you that name.
(my mom answered the part about my name)

Kimberly Rose: Kim's name was originally going to be Autumn Celeste. Yes, I had the name of Celeste in my mind for a long time before it actually stuck. (my little sister Ariel eventually got that middle name)

We lived in Ganado and the principal's wife was Navajo and had come to our apartment selling jewelry.  She was also pregnant and due in October or November (her due date was imminent.)  She asked me what names we had chosen and I said that we liked Autumn Celeste if we had a girl.
She obviously delivered before me and they named their baby girl, Autumn Celeste!

When Kim was born we felt like if we used the same name it would look rather strange so we settled on Kimberly, using Kim Adams Siler, a very close friend of mine from BYU Theater Workshop era as the namesake.  Kim was known as Auntie Kim and she would send the kids gifts and kept very close in touch (and was thrilled to have Kim named after her - she said she was Kim's Godmother) until her tragic death in 1981 - a result of a car accident.

She was not a member of the LDS faith and after she died, I had the very vivid impression/experience that she kept asking me why I hadn't told her about the gospel/church.  She "haunted" me for the next 10 years plus.  She kept wanting to know what I was going to do about it...

Move forward in those 10 years and there in our ward in Springville I was assigned to visit teach Renee Adams and one time we were talking about genealogy research.  I related my impressions about Kim and told Renee that I had no idea how to go about finding out more information about her and what to do. (This was pre-www days)  She gave me the suggestion of contacting the librarian in the area where Kim's accident had occurred to ask if it would be possible to look at old newspapers.   I followed her direction and the librarian responded with all of the details I needed to make the contacts and get the go-ahead to do Kim's temple work.  Miracles happen!

I seem to remember that Kim and Emily (correct me if I am wrong...) were able to do the baptism and confirmation for Kim and then I did her initiatory and endowment.  At the moment the endowment was over, I heard Kim's voice tell me,  "Thanks love, got to go now - I have things to do!"   She hasn't "haunted" since.  :)

Kim's middle name Rose was just a beautiful name that fit perfectly with Kimberly.  Rose Shepherd was a wonderful lady in our ward growing up but Kim wasn't really named for her.  It was just a pretty name.

 (these answered by me)

Brent Eugene- Grandma really liked the name Brent.
Eugene was the name after Grandpa Keith's little brother who died when he was 2 of appendicitis. But Brent was called Benji all growing up because when he was born, Jeremy (Brent's nephew) was about 2 and when he said Brent Eugene....mashed together sounded like Benji. And it stuck :)

Kimberly Rose- Mom already explained where mine came from. Glad I am not Autumn :)
On our first date, Brent said that 'Kimberly Rose' was the most beautiful name he had ever heard :)
I wish I had a better memory....wish I blogged back in my teens :) I want to remember going to the temple for Aunt Kim, but I don't.  I would love to see if I can go back in my journals and hopefully I wrote about it.

Madison Bell- Brent always loved the name Madison and he always wanted that for his first daughter.
I mean how sweet is it for a boy to have a name picked for a future daughter :)
I thought it was cute too and agreed, not knowing what a popular name it was!!!!
Bell came from Mom and also Grandma Ene had an Aunt Bell as well and we thought it would be fun to have a name that came from both sides.
I call Madi 'Bell', almost all the time.
Unless I am mad, then she is Madison.
She just doesn't seem like a Madi to me....ha ha ha!
But I think Bell fits her perfectly :)

Cassidy Leath - I knew a few Cassidy's growing up and always liked the name.
It always seemed so fun and kind of funky.
In collage I knew a guy who was also named Cassidy, but went by Cass and I liked that......
When it came time to pick a name for her, I suggested it and Brent liked it.
I think it is the perfect fit for her personality and even her hobbies (that kind of sounds silly...but oh well.)
Leath was the name for Grandma Ene's mother.
We always talked about using family names.
Such a great way to honor our posterity, I think :)
And Cassidy Leath just flows so nicely together.

Elsie Rose- We had a hard time coming up with a THIRD girls name!
I remember driving through Provo canyon on our way from Wyoming to Utah.
I was pretty far along in the pregnancy and we needed to come up with a name!
We were talking about names and thinking of family names.....we came across Elsie who was Grandpa Keith's mothers, moms name. So His Grandma. We both liked it a lot.
We were having some kind of get together in the front yard of the 1285 house. And I remember sitting with Grandma Beardall and asking her about family names. I asked her what her mother's name was, and she said it was Elsie. (not sure why I didn't know that already.....but we all know how blonde and ditzy I was growing up...)
I was so amazed.....just that day to have been talking about that same name!!!
It was a sign and it HAD to be our baby's name!!!!
We were thinking of using Bernice (my Grandma Beardall's name) for her middle name....but Rachel had said she thought she might use it for her baby, so we decided on Rose, after my middle name :)
I think Elsie Rose sounds just perfect together!

Porter Brent-
Picking a boys name is hard! You want something that will be cute for a baby....but also a manly name that they can be called if he happens to be called to the General Presidency :) ha ha ha!
I really liked Evan....a throwback to Evanston where Brent grew up.
But he didn't like that.
Finally towards the end we had decided on either Zacary Brent or Porter Brent.
I posted on my blog and got 33 comments and the majority said Zacary.
I kind of thought that was what it would be.
The 'y' sound at the end matched with the girls nick names....it just kind of fit.
When I went into labor and we had some complications with that giant head of his.
And then when he was born and he was pretty blue and there was some concern in the room.
I got to hold him for just a minute then they took him away and Brent came to me, he said 'his name is Porter'.
He could tell he was a good strong fighter and Porter fit that bill!
I completely agreed.
And Brent as the middle name, obviously comes from his daddy :)
