Tuesday December 6

Do you ever feel like this???

Today was one of those days.
For pretty much all of us.
Like a 'I just wish we could jump back in bed and sleep all day' kind of day.
The "day" started out at 3:30 when Port came running in to my bed.
I told him it was way too early and tried to put him in bed with me....
I heard Elsie stirring, and DID NOT want her to wake up.
He told me he didn't want to sleep in the bed....he wanted to sleep in the recliner.
Fine....anything to keep him quiet to Elsie didn't wake up.
I got him in the chair and he snuggled up and went right to sleep.
It was just a few minutes later that I heard Elsie whimper.
I just left her alone....wishing and hoping she would go back to sleep.
No such luck.
I went in to calm her down....but I could tell she was up for good.
She was saying that her feet hurt....I am thinking that they must have fallen asleep in some weird position she was sleeping.
I gave her a good foot rub and begged her to go back to sleep.
I hopped in bed, but about 5 minutes later she was crying again.
I thought maybe if I take her upstairs, I could at least go to sleep on the couch while she watched TV.
So we went up.
She did watch TV, and I did cuddle up in the couch.
But.....Elsie Rose asked for a snack, drink, Popsicles, to restart the show, or another drink about every 10 minutes.
Yes, Popsicles at 4:00 in the morning.
I think that may be the definition of a 'problem' :)
I told her she had to wait until we saw the sun come up before she could have one.
Anyway.....finally at about 6:30, she fell back asleep.
I carefully took her down to bed.
I climbed into bed....wishing and hoping (again) for some sleep.
But, the other kids were bound to wake up some time soon.
Port got up at 7.
That's fine.
We got all ready.....I did not send Elsie to school.
She was back up at 7:30.....that was not enough sleep for that girl.
Anyway....
Got the kids to school and came home to find Cassi's lunch box sitting on the floor.
I drove back to school to deliver her lunch box.
Okay.
Now we are home...ready to conquer the day and my to-do list.
I tried to get the addresses printed that I spent hours getting typed up last night, so I could get the Christmas cards out today.
But....could not find them on the computer.
I am gonna have to start again.
I know....that doesn't seem like a big deal....but time is of the essence this time of year.
I don't have spare hours :(
It just seemd like the day was going in a bad direction....like everything was just going wrong.
But we had just gotten started :)
Elsie made her morning trip to the bathroom where we find ourselves without any water.
No water.
No Dad to fix it.
I called Dad at work.
He tried to tell me what to look and and what to try.
First of all, I don't understand what he is talking about when it comes to the electrical stuff out in the well house.
Plus, I have two really grumpy little kids who don't want me to leave them for anything.
Dad called Drew, who luckily happened to be home.
Heather, Drew and Hallie were headed out shopping and so willingly agreed to stop by and see what they could do.
Heather was sweet about ignoring my incredibly messy house......
And Drew called Brent while he was out in the well house and they did figure out the problem and he told me a temporary solution for it.
But Dad was worried about the pumps getting too much pressure....pipes bursting....
He ended up getting his shift covered for a few hours so he could come home and fix/replace the gage for it.
So it was fun to see him for a few hours......but it was all work and no fun, and pretty soon he was gone.
By then, the day was pretty much shot.
And Elsie was a wreck....crying and so very tired, but unwilling to try and rest.
When it gets cold like this her poor muscles get so tight....and it makes her feel a little helpless......therefore, very stubborn.
She wants control over something, and if it can't be her body....it is gonna have to be something :)
And she turns rotten.
We decided to hop in the car to go pick the girls up after school.
When we got home....my tiredness and grumpiness must have been very noticeable....cause everyone was in a bad mood.
We did make it through the evening....and they are all snug in their beds.
I am on my way there....and hopefully I can stay there all night long :)
*******
BUT....
Something exciting did happen.
Elsie got ON and OFF the toilet all by herself today.
I taught her to do it backwards....so she ha a support to hold onto.
I am actually looking for something like this:

So if anyone knows where I can find one.....
Or if anyone is a major awesome google-er....let me know.
I think it would make a big difference for her and I would love for her to be able to sit on the toilet the right way and feel safe and comfortable.
Anyway....we were all very proud of her for being willing to try to do it herself.
Great job Elsie!
Now....lets try to be in a good mood tomorrow!!!!!

Cause you have a way better smile then you do a frown!
